  • Title:By or After Charles-André van Loo, who also went by the first name Carle, (French, 1705-1765) Huge Early Dutch Italianate Oil Painting New York Auction Provenance Court Scene with Dog Women Music Lace Collar Palladian Vista with Rococo Manner Frame
  • Description: Huge oil-on-canvas painting by or after famed French artist Van Loo, who himself came from a famed lineage of Dutch painters. This piece also has a New York Auction House label that we have reason to believe is either Sotheby's or Christie's. This painting was restored by world-renowned Spanish painting restoration expert Julio Llort Guindulain, as indicated on the back. The restoration was performed in Puerto Rico. Mr. Llort now resides in Santa Domingo, D.R., and has restored paintings at San Jose Academy and conserved/restored many important paintings in Spain, before moving to his current residence, where he has undertaken restoration efforts for world-class museums such as the Museum of Modern Art. The star pupil of Ricardo Tarega Viladores and Fernando Fala. Working under the Director of Restoration and Conservation Heritage Department in Barcelona, he was charged with conserving many religious frescoes in churches and cathedrals across Spain. He also collaborated with his Father in restoring paintings of the Ponce Museum.

  • Condition:Conservation performed in 1975 as indicated on back of canvas, see photos, and which may have been this piece’s second conservation. Craquelure present, especially on upper left corner, please see photos. Overall, very good, especially given age and size.
  • Hallmarks:Van Loo placard on front base of frame.
  • Provenance:From the estate of 1952 Helsinki Olympian Jaime Annexy Fajardo of Puerto Rico and his wife Pan-American games tennis star Monica Annexy. The Annexy’s both inherited many fine antiques and were themselves avid collectors in the Continental taste, settling in an expensive landmark home overlooking Spring Bayou in Tarpon Spring, FL, the site of the famous, annual Greek Orthodox Epiphany Cross-Diving festival.
