NAME: On the Cornish Coast
MEDIUM: oil on canvas
CONDITION: Relined. Some paint losses. Some flaking. Some craquelure. No visible inpaint under UV light. Minor damages to frame.

BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Liverpool in 1863. He attended the Liverpool School of Art. In his early career he worked for Dennis of Scarborough and London, painting scenes for postcards.He married Cicely Jones in 1892 who was also an artist and music teacher in Birkenhead. They had 3 children and then moved to Anglesey, Wales in late 1898 and subsequently to the Conway Valley. He became a fellow of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1907 but was forced to resign in 1918 for refusal to sell his paintings through the Academy.They had six children in all, two of which became well-know as artists: Nesta (Mrs. Vincent Jones) and Geoffrey Warren Williams. Cicely died on March 6, 1939, and Hugh on September 1, 1941. They are buried with their son Eric at St. Benedicts Churchyard, Guffin, Conway, North Wales.
