1863 CIVIL WAR 1ed History of US Slavery Lincoln Grant Lee Union Confederate 2v
A scarce first edition of John Stevens Cabot Abbotts two-volume historical biography entitled, The History of the Civil War in America. Abbotts account of the Civil War and was written and published during the war and it would have been read as news rather than history. Though well researched, Abbott utilizes a colorful narrative style thus providing a work that reads like that of a “popular” account versus the standard academic, sober, and authoritative approach. Accompanied by a myriad of illustrations of maps, diagrams, portraits, and battle scenes this work details the events leading up to the war, the eventual assassination of President Lincoln in April of 1865, and closes with the final chapter describing the results of the conflict as of the date of publication.
