Description
This antique map, created by R. Bonne and Raynal between 1775 and 1780, offers a comprehensive view of Southeast Asia. It showcases present-day Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and the Philippines in full detail. Additionally, the map includes Taiwan, parts of southern China, Burma, and Malaysia. This map is part of "Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Etablissemens," a significant work from the Age of Enlightenment with contributions from Diderot. The controversial topics addressed in this work, such as religion, commerce, slavery, and contemporary political and social issues, led to its banning in France and subsequent publication in Geneva, Switzerland. Crafted through copperplate engraving, this map is in overall very good condition, with authenticity guaranteed. It measures 14 1/2" x 9 1/2".
