Red painted hinged wooden box used, according to a note pasted inside, as both a step and storage for a Model T fire truck at the No. 6 station, corner of Laurel and Cumberland Streets, Richmond, Virginia. Corrugated rubber nailed to top of step/ box to prevent firefighters from slipping. interior painted green. Approx. 27" W x 12 1/2" D x 10" H. Provenance: the estate of John Long, highly regarded Virginia antiques dealer and collector.
