Description
Sailboat Oil on board - signed Dimensions: 38" x 28". SHIPS FROM ORANGE COUNTY, CA. A clipper was a type of mid-19th-century merchant sailing vessel, designed for speed. The emphasis on speed came in part from the competition for bringing tea from China. Of the many clipper ships built during the mid-19th century, only two are known to survive. The "Cutty Sark" is the only intact survivor, which was preserved as a museum ship in 1954 at Greenwich for public display.
