Provenance: Acquired by its owner from Old Sculpin Gallery, Edgartown, MA.
Note on the Artist: Known as the “Dean of Chicago Painters” by his colleagues, was one of the city’s most popular and celebrated painters in his day. A prolific painter, Chapin produced numerous works while traveling in Mexico, France, Spain, Saugatuck and Martha's Vineyard, where he frequently spent summers. Among Chapin’s notable showings were at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. His works are in permanent collections at the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum (NYC), Philadelphia Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Syracuse University, and other museums.
