Attributed to Jacques Courtois, this drawing depicts figures on horse back racing in various directions engaged in battle while one riders has been flung to the ground by their downed horse. Courtois originally studied under his father before joining the French military. Scenes of battle drew him back to art, becoming well versed and sought after for his military paintings.
