Mola from Panama, Central America, The Kuna women of Panama use reverse applique to make panels which form the lower parts of their blouses. They stack up several layers of different color fabric then create a design by cutting slits in the top layer and stitching down the turned under edges to reveal the underlying color. Traditional designs were geometric or simplified animal shapes such as this bird and fish motif.
