American Waltham Watch Co., Waltham, Mass., a Civil War era "Appleton, Tracy & Co." pocket watch, 18 size, 16 jewels, key wind and set gilt plate movement with lever escapement and cut, bimetallic balance in a gold filled, reeded edge, engine turned and engraved hunting case, roman numeral, single sunk white enamel dial signed "American Watch Co.", with blued steel hands, serial #27904
Condition
CASE: Shallow dents; Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Very fine scratches on cuvette; Engine turning worn smooth; Gold filled with minor brassing; Front cover lift spring weak; Front cover extends beyond 90 degrees when opened, 100 deg.; Pusher cap worn through. DIAL: A few flakes in enamel concealed by bezel, otherwise very good. HANDS: Minor oxide; Seconds short. MOVEMENT PLATES: Fine scratches on plate; Spotting; Scuff on barrel bridge; A few fine scratches and specks of oxide on regulator. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks), circa 1860
