Lot of twenty approx. 5 x 4 in. b/w photographs depicting the nose art of American Boeing B-29 Superfortresses and B-24 Liberators. The first eleven show the planes: Moon’s Moonbeam, Torchy, Aviation Engineers, Seven to Seven, Tiger, Ah Sooo, Saipanda, Fire Ball, Honey, Our Gal, and Bedroom Eyes. The next nine show the planes: Vagrant Virgin, Fools Rush In, G.I. Wife, Fast Company, Hells-Belle, Fluxuatin’ Kate, Problem Child, Red Hot Riding Hood, and Bashful Marion. The Nose art was originally started for the practical reason of identifying friendly units, but eventually evolved into a deeply rooted part of USAAF culture to express individuality often constrained by the uniformity of the military.
