Description
Exceptional and rare Ava Period (14-19th Century) lacquered and gold-leafed Buddhist attendees (monks) kneeling in posture of prayer. One holds his hands together in anuji mudra showing respect, while the other has his hands on his knees in a postion of meditation. They bth have untreated wood exposed at their bases, indicating they were positioned within a larger framework, probably from a temple or monastery. Each 24.5" high, 10.5" deep, 8" wide. Provenance: Jeff Foster, Marine Biologist, who received them as gifts while working directly for the Myanmar government between 1985 and 1990.
