Winchester Model 1892 .25-20 Saddle Ring Carbine
Winchester Model 1892 .25-20 Saddle Ring Carbine
Item Details
Description
Winchester 1892 Saddle ring Carbine in popular caliber .25-20, serial number 657194 made the year the famed ship Titanic sank in 1912. This fine carbine recently came out of here in Montana and no doubt saw ranch and cowboy use. The 20? barrel shows all the correct Winchester address and patent markings along with the correct caliber designation stamped ahead of the receiver. The barrel blue has aged and thinned to an uncleaned gray/brown patina with good blue on the bottom portions above the magazine tube. Further, the barrel is correctly fitted with the original carbine ladder rear sight with slide intact and correct carbine front sight. The magazine tube shows fine lightly aged blue. Complete with original saddle ring, the receiver still retains areas of thinning blue with the remainder aged to an uncleaned and attractive gray/brown. Screw heads are generally excellent and the action is tight with a secure half-cock safety notch on the hammer. The upper tang has all the correct Winchester markings. Stock and forend display tight wood to metal fit and only show normal handling. The bore is a little ?frosty? with strong rifling all the way through. The Johnathan Browning designed 1892 Winchester was considered one of the ?slickest? and fastest cycling lever actions ever manufactured. It was also one of the strongest. Saddle ring carbines in .25-20 were especially popular with ranchers and sheep herders who used them to great effect on coyotes. The small muzzle blast and noise of this caliber was appreciated for not spooking herds. A fine example of a 112 year old Winchester from Montana. The rifle weighs 5lbs 14oz. Serial Number: 567194. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
