Indian Rock, Narragansett, Rhode Island, circa 1867, unsigned, oil on canvas, 14 x 24 in.; fine period carved gilt wood frame, 22-1/2 x 32-1/4 in.

Note: This view of Narragansett Bay, one of Kensett's favorite scenes, relates to a number of other works by the artist. A very similar scene with the same measurements, albeit one with fully developed genre elements, is in collection of The Seattle Art Museum, (2001.1054). Most recently, a larger version sold at Sotheby's in New York on September 30, 2020, for $75,600.

lined, areas of retouch, paper edging showing slightly at edges of liner; frame with areas of tiny losses
