A Cased Pair Of 20-Bore Percussion Officer's Pistols By Riviere, London, Mid-19th Century With twist sighted barrels (acid cleaned) each engraved 'LONDON' along the top flat, breeches each engraved with a foliate scroll on the top flat and with threaded plug, foliate engraved tangs each with back-sight, border engraved flat locks and hammers decorated with foliage, the former signed in capitals, figured full stocks each with chequered rounded butt, trigger-guards each with pineapple finial, decorated en suite with the locks on the bow, and retaining some original blueing on the inside, vacant white-metal escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and stirrup ramrods: in lined and fitted mahogany case with some accessories including Dixon & Sons three-way powder-flask (old shallow dent on one side) retaining much of its lacquered finish, the interior of the lid with reproduction maker's trade label, the exterior with shaped vacant brass escutcheon, Birmingham proof marks 16.3 cm. barrels Footnotes: Isaac 2 Riviere was granted English Patent No. 5175 (for concealed percussion locks) in 1825. His lock was rejected by the Ordnance in 1834.
