Signed First Day Cover
Limited edition cover commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, flown on a memorial flight, dated October 5, 1980, Biggin Hill, Kent. Numbered 458 out of 1,000 issued and certified on verso by W. S. O. Randle of the Royal Air Force Museum. Signed by five individual Royal Air Force aces, including: Bob Stanford Tuck (29 victories); Douglas Bader (22 victories); Johnnie Johnson (38 victories); John Cunningham (20 victories); and James Lacey (28 victories). Stipulated on front as being flown for a total of 1 hour and 25 minutes. Measuring 7.5" x 4.5". Several philatelic caches throughout, with slight bumping to corners. Otherwise, near fine. Accompanied by a biographical sheet within.
The Battle of Britain was a military campaign that spanned between July 10 thru October 31, 1940 in which the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy defended the United Kingdom against large-scale attacks by Nazi Germany's air force. It was the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
