About the customs house "Originally, it was a safe guard designed by Sebastien Le Prestre de Vauban (1633-1707), military architect of Louis XIV, who was in charge of fortifying the French coast, " said Ludwig Nerhot. These guard posts made it possible at the time to monitor the coastline and watch for enemy ships. These constructions later became customs guard posts to guard the smugglers' coast, as there was a lot of smuggling between the Channel Islands and Normandy."
