A pair of Chinese 'nine symbols' silk badges made for Yuan Shih-k'ai, Republican Period, circa 1912-1916, 20cm diameter (2)Yuan Shih-K'ai, served as President of the Chinese Republic from 1912-16, maintaining the traditional seasonal sacrifices with himself playing the part of former Emperors. These badges were to be worn on the official robe he designed for such occasions, in an attempt to maintain some of the symbology associated with the Sons of Heaven. 民國 奉袁世凱制九章徽章一對
