[POTTERY]. [NELSON, Lord Horatio (1758-1805), subject]. “Admiral Nelson / Victory” Nelson Mourning Jug. [Liverpool, ca. 1805]. Transferware Mourning Jug with black and white illustrations or text. Approximately 6 x 6 ½”. On one side is a portrait of Nelson surrounded with the legend, “England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty”; the other side has a poem: “In deaths terrific icy arms, The brave illustrious Nelson Lies; He’s free from care and wars alarms, See s [sic] not our tears nor hears our sighs…” Minor occasional soiling, else fine. A beautiful commemorative jug manufactured shortly after the news of the great Admiral’s death at Trafalgar.
