Description
ARTHUR JACQUES LEDUC (FRENCH 1848-1918)
A HORSE WITH CHARACTER
bronze, dark green patina, signed located on the saddle cloth ‘LEDUC, A TORIGNY’, mounted on a textured stone rectangular base
67cm wide, 52cm high, 30cm deep
Note: Arthur-Jacques le Duc trained in the studio of animal sculptor Pierre Le Nordez at the École des Beaux-arts in Caen. He moved to Paris in 1872, and between 1890 and 1907 regularly exhibited animal subjects in plaster, stoneware and ceramics at the Salon, inspired by the works of Antoine-Louis Barye. Fascinated by equines, he produced several equestrian portraits including, in a more historicist vein, the monument to Constable de Richemont in Vannes.
