Item Details
Description
This is another super-rare piece from the Matthews collection! It is a Waterloo Cedar Falls and Northern Railroad Adlake non-sweating caboose/interurban marker lamp. Welded tag on the chimney reads W.C.F.&N.R.R., and a second welded tag shows that this is a LEFT side lantern. Two red and two green lenses in fine used condition, with no cracks or chips. Has correct Adlake 270 fount and long stem brass burner. Also has correct inner chimney cone and basket. Includes the mounting bracket/arm around the bottom, which are still sold by Adlake for about $150 each. The WCF&N ran from 1896 to 1958 and was the last interurban railroad west of Chicago and east of California. It had a 22 mile line from Waterloo to Waverly, and a 60 mile line to Cedar Rapids. It was jointly purchased for freight service by the Illinois Central and Rock Island, but was abandoned in the 1970s. A great piece for the serious Iowa railroad enthusiast!
