George IV Burl Satinwood Sarcophagus Chest. In the manner of George Bullock. Inlaid with paterae, and Neoclassical motifs to top. Initials of later hammered decorative nailheads. Handles probably applied later. Interior lined with pale green silk moire brocade._x000B_ L.h, in Gothic script, made out of nailheads, probably circa 1900. English. Circa 1850 and later. {Approximate dimensions: 13" H. x 25" W. x 17 1/4 D. Provenance: Formerly in the Collections of Lady Hay, Jane Loftus, Marchioness of Ely (1821-1890). Lady Hay was a lady of Queen Victoria's bedchamber and a confidante of the Queen for decades. As sold at auction in London, circa 1900; and later, at Butterfield's in the mid 1950s. In one Bay Area family since 1955. _x000B_ Condition: Overall condition is very good and attractive. 3/4" loss to one section of inlay to top, lower left corner. Loss to veneer, base right corner. Stain to interior fabric.
