A Cloisonné-Enamel Miniature Ovoid Vase and Cover
Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
Intricately worked in silver and gold wire with an all-over design of overlapping stylised foliate roundels and scrolling floral vines scattered over eight differently coloured vertical panels, the domed cover surmounted by a chrysanthemum finial, and decorated with matching foliate and geometric motifs mirroring the design on the shoulder, applied with a gold rim and foot, signed on the base with chiselled characters Kyoto Namikawa on a silver plaque; with a plain wood storage box. 10.8cm (4¼in) high. Condition
Including but not limited to the following:
A small pinhole sized chip on one of the green-ground panels, with associated faint cracks, the longest measuring 1.5cm. Another tiny cluster of cracks on one of the amber ground panels to the left of a brown flower, and a third tiny crack to the right of the same brown flower on the same panel. Aforementioned only visible under strong light. The gilt rims a little tarnished.
