Subject marine view depicting the Danish Schooner sailing ship named Dana, a feature that stands out is that this ship has 4 masts which is so fascinating see. In full sail in side profile heading tiwards the left, near the shoreline coast, in front are 2 rowing boats each with 1 crew, the boat on the left is coming towards the shore on beaking waves and the other boat is rowing away from shore heading towards the Dana. The Danish ensign flag is hoisted by the stern.Fully rigged & abive mainly overcast grey sky, with darker storm clouds approaching from the right, spots of lighter blue coming through.

Indistinctly signed by a Danish artist.

Circa late 20th century dated 1971.

A nice display size with the frame being 39.5 cm wide and 32.5 cm high.

Medium oil on board.

Set in original moulded gilt frame.

With hanging thread on the back ready for immediate home display.

Ship biography Dana was a four-masted motor schooner built for the Danish East Asiatic Company (EAK) and launched in 1919. Tonnage 362 GRT/238 NRT, length 135ft (41m). Beam 30ft (9.1m) Draught 12.7ft (3.9m). It was made available to the Danish marine biologist Johannes Schmidt, who used it for two expeditions to the Sargasso Sea in 1920–1921. The main goal of the expeditions, named the first and second Dana expeditions, was searching for the spawning grounds of the European eel.

The ship was returned to service in EAK after the expeditions and sold to Sweden in 1924, where it was renamed to Carina. Later sold to Italy (1934) and renamed Giuseppina V, it was lost 30 August 1941 during the bombing of Tripoli. Dana was succeeded by the research vessel Dana (II).
