Franz Barwig the Younger received basic sculptural training from his father Franz Barwig the Elder and studied from 1926 at the Academy of Fine Arts with Josef Muellner. From 1932, Franz Barwig the Younger worked as a freelance sculptor; In Vienna he created, among other things, works for St. Stephen's Cathedral and for the parish churches of Ottakring, Poetzleinsdorf and Sievering, as well as fountain sculptures, other sculptures, and house signs.
