Description
mid 19th century, 200 x 140 cm, South East Anatolia

The deep green field filled with rosettes and stars is entirely taken up by a large cochineal shield medallion with stepped sides and pendants that similarly contain rosettes and stars. The wide border is made up of four bands. A rare village rug woven in highly luminous and diverse colours.

Both sides are damaged, the upper kilim finish survives, somewhat reduced at the bottom, otherwise well preserved.
