Description
This large flatweave with a design brocaded in the zili technique on a red ground was first exhibited in Frankfurt (Museum fur Kunsthandwerk) in 1993 and then in Berlin (Museum of Islamic Art) in the “Yayla” exhibition; it is published in the catalogue by Bruggemann. Woven in a single piece, the cover was cut twice horizontally across the middle and is thus reduced in length. Bruggemann presumes that it is the work of a Turkmen tribal group in Central Anatolia. The primary design consists of eight huge star devices within octagonal frames, with hooked diamonds placed between them. The white areas set accents and provide a clear structure in the design. A comparative piece can be found in the collection of the Vakiflar Museum in Istanbul (inv. no. Y 81-111). Another example was sold by us in 2019.
