late 19th century, 241 x 156 cm, South West Caucasus
A red-ground Kazak woven in an open design. Three sets of large nested hooked diamonds are aligned on the central axis of the field, while the lateral areas contain four stepped polygons, a number of blossoms and stars as well as one human figure on the left side, with a pair of white scissors depicted above it. Three borders of equal width feature vine designs.
Slight signs of wear in the pile, one stitched vertical tear at the lower end, the original selvedges survive all around, partially damaged selvedges. Provenance: Ehrengard Freifrau von Trotha Collection. Formerly in the collection of Peter-Christian Graf von Kleist-Retzow
