Item Details
Description
second half 19th century, 140 x 58 cm, South East Caucasus, Moghan-Savalan

This is a fully preserved sumakh khorjin of the Moghan Shahsavan with the "arrow gul" design, named after the red box motif with a gul centre and four arms that end in arrowheads. The red triangular shapes in the corners act like a fixed brace framing the central motif. In the dark blue border, stars and geometrically stylised rosettes are alternately aligned in a row. This lovely double bag was already exhibited in Frankfurt in 1962.

Very good condition. Provenance: Ehrengard Freifrau von Trotha Collection. Formerly in the collection of Peter-Christian Graf von Kleist-Retzow
