PROVENANCE: These items part of the estate of Charles Landis Bricker of Birmingham Michigan, an avid gun collector. Upon his death, his large collection of firearms was sold at Christies NY and some were dispersed to family members. The item(s) listed in the lot belonged to Mr. Bricker and inherited by a family member who prefers to be anonymous. Mr. Bricker had a shooting gallery constructed under his driveway at his Birmingham residence, which was thought to be originally built as a bomb shelter. The targets sold in this sale were used in this gallery for fun and for sighting in his weapons. The posters listed here hung in his office adjacent to the gallery, as late as the 1970’s. Note that one of the weapons that Mr. Bricker owned was the original Serial No. 1 Colt single-action army “Peacemaker” revolver. It has a long history of ownership: In May of 1925, Fred Mills bought an old dusty SAA from a NH housewife for $4. When he got it home and cleaned it up, he found that it was SN 1. It was later owned by Michigan collector, CHARLES BRICKER. After Mr. Bricker died, it was sold by Christie's to Greg Martin (San Francisco Gun Dealer) who paid the largest amount ever paid for an American gun at auction, $242,000. The firearm was resold again at Greg Martin’s Auction in Jan. 2009 for $852,900, another world record for that time.
