Description
A carved wooden semi helmet dance mask with painted spot designs and rare zoomorphic form, a feline image with signs of heavy field use and wear. Such masks are danced at ceremonial activities and rituals. Luba peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. The mask measures 13 inches tall x 9.5 inches wide. The mask is in good but well worn condition and will include a display stand. Provenance: Justin Barthels (1934-2021), gallery owner Maastricht (NL)
