Description
These figurines of raptors in silver seem to originate in the region of Caesaria in eastern Anatolia. The famous mines of mount Argaeus provided large amounts of silver in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. These votive figurines were often used as pendants for cults of Zeus. This specimen has a piercing by its tail for suspension. Silver. Roman 2/1st.c.B.C. 28 mm.
