An Important Pottier and Stymus, New York rosewood bedroom suite executed for James Clair Flood's Menlo Park, CA mansion, ''Linden Towers'', 1878, The Aesthetic Artistic suite executed in rosewood, consisting of a queen size bed having an arched acanthus decorated crestrail surmounting the relief carved urn and floral frieze centered by the rosette decorated pilasters, the central raised burl panels with brass accented borders, the conforming footboard having finial capped pilasters continuing to the floral sprays and rising on shaped feet, 79''h x 72.5''w x 91''l, the mirrored dresser having a horizontal crest with conforming brass border accents framing the relief decorated pilasters terminating at the candlestands centering the beveled looking glass, above the original marble top surmounting the carved three drawer case (both with corresponding five digit number and stenciled FLOOD) retaining the original cast bronze pulls, and rising on stylized carved feet, 98''h x 57''w x 25''d (original keys in office). Linden Towers, a most impressive and massive estate built by 19th century San Francisco millionaire James C. Flood, was, at the time, regarded as the most elaborate country estate of the period in the San Francisco Bay Area. With an estimated worth of $18 million in the 1870s, Flood spared no expense in building and furnishing his Menlo Park mansion, commissioning artisans from around the world and using only the finest materials and furnishings obtainable. The decor in each of the over 40 rooms was personally selected by Flood. The Flood Mansion ?Linden Towers? was torn down in 1934 and all of the extravagant contents were sold.
