[Memory] is [...] a pervasive conceptual trope across all of Saar's creative endeavors. [...] In Keep for Old Memoirs, House of Ancient Memory, and The Long Memory, Saar invokes the power and centrality of memory in her work's conception. Indeed, the act of bearing witness--of remembering--is a strategic orienting tactic in Black feminist thought, cultural history, and politics, and Saar elaborates in haunting artworks such as Memory Window for Anastacia, and in her poem, 'My Secret Heart.'"
