This sensitive drawing of a head has been identified as a study for the angel standing to the right of the figure of Christ in Lord Lelghton's great fresco of The Wise and Foolish Virgins at St. Michael and All Angels church in Lyndhurst, Hampshire. The painting, executed beneath the church's east window in 1863, depicts the parable described in Matthew 25:1-13.
