Description
A family group of 3 Great War medals to the Bowen brothers from Camberwell, one of whom died of wounds in 1918. British War and Victory medals, “L-21134 DVR. J. BOWEN R.A.” Medals to John Bowen who served in the Royal Horse Artillery and was awarded a pai of medals for his war service. Victory Medal, “42645 BMBR. J BOWEN R.A.” Medal awarded to James Bowen who served in France from 4th September 1915 and who died of wounds on 15th May 1918 whilst serving with ‘A’ Battery, 307th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. He now rests in an identified grave in Pernes British Cemetery, France. The 1911 Census shows 24-year-old John Bowen living with his 20 year old brother James and his mother, Mercy Bowen at 23 Sultan Street, Camberwell.
