Unlined canvas with Winsor & Newton supplier's mark on the reverse. Minor frame abrasion at edges. Some yellowing to the varnish layer. Some scattered instances of pigment separation, apparently stabilized beneath the varnish layer. Minor surface dust. Not examined out of frame.
Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly. A few areas of brushy retouching in the background. Some apparent strengthening applied to portions of the head and body of the black and white calf. A very few additional small dots and dashes of retouching scattered throughout.
