Late 17th C. stump work/needlework lift top casket, depicting Rebecca at the well, worked in brick, satin, French knot, tent and other stitches. A fitted interior of drawers lined with silk and other fabric, behind two hinged doors with mirrored panels, on later turned legs. 9”H x 11”W x 8.5”D. Provenance: Cain Collection, Collection of Katherine Prentiss Murphy, Sotheby’s Schorsch Collection sale.
Condition
Thread pulling, other losses to decoration, feet later replacements, other wear commensurate with age.
