Description
An Igbo Helmet Mask, agbogho mmwo Nigeria, c. 20th century Wood with white, dark red, and black pigments. In typical form with a big superstructure composed of five semicircular half-wheel crests, each with spokes and circular or triangular cogs around perimeter. The side plaits of the coiffure composed of four descending braids joined at their tips. In good condition, the pigments discolored/darkened from storage, missing element at very front of superstructure, proper right tip of braids missing, largest wheel separated at top. Remains of vegetal fiber fabric and twine around bottom. With a metal stand.
