A late 18th century American sterling silver covered sugar basin. In a typical Federal style with lobed body and bright cut engraving. The period initials engraved in a style often seen onChinese export porcelain for the American market. The maker's mark is possibly that of Samuel Alexander of Philadelphia from the 1790's H.: 19.5 cm (7 5/8 in.)578g of weighable silver
