Description
William Lawrence Austin (1853-1939), Ink, Pencil and Gouache Drawings, 1869Original illustrations on heavy paper, epicting the Tabernacle of the Wilderness, some with color, most signed and dated. Sheets range from 19 3/4" x 26 1/2" to 26 1/4" x 39 3/4". Austin went on to be a notable mining engineer, inventor and president of the Colorado Scientific Society. He held a Ph.D in mining from Heidleberg and wrote numerous scientific articles. Austin patented the Austin pyritic smelting process for metal extraction, worked on mines all around the world, and operated a laboratory near his home in Riverside, California.
