Description
Chinese, massive three-part cloisonné enamel brazier with elephant-head tripod feet. The cylindrical brazier decorated with mythical symbols of good fortune, including the Isles of the Immortals emerging from bands of waves, celestial horses, and multi-colored clouds; the scalloped-edged rim decorated with shou characters and foliate designs; the pierced, gilt lid decorated with phoenixes amidst clouds above which is a narrow band of delicate cloisonne polychrome lotus flowers; surmounted by a jewel-shaped finial with pierced, gilt cloud design, 17th or 18th century. Measures approximately 21 x 21 inches overall.
Condition
One loose foot elephant head support has had previous repair, major area of enamel loss around one foot, considerable enamel loss throughout, there has been some attempt at replacing enamel, a 2-inch area of loss to one trim bead as shown, scattered reinforcements.
