Fine Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Heavy Glaze Runs, Stamped with Inverted "V" Twice at Base, Pottersville, Edgefield District, SC origin, circa 1820, highly-ovoid jar with thin rim and applied tab handles, the surface covered in a light greenish-cream alkaline glaze with darker green runs cascading from the shoulder of the jar. Impressed at base with two inverted "V" marks. Excellent form and glaze. A 1" flake to edge of one handle with a 1 1/2" horizontal hairline extending from it. 1 1/8" chip to opposite handle. Two chips on interior on exterior of rim and a minor, shallow chip on interior of rim. Some minor, shallowing chipping to base. H 11 1/2".
