Description
A choice Greek bronze helmet of Corinthian type , c. 6th Century BC, of domed form, constructed from a single heavy sheet of hammered bronze with flaring neck-guards, the cheek-guards pointed at their ends, the eye holes almond-shaped and the round nose-guard, which is attached and riveted in place, protruding with a lightly raised border. Around the perimeter of the entire helmet are perforations for interior lining and other addition, the tiny rivets still in place around the nose guard. On the crown of the head are two large perforation for some kind of crest. 10 ¾ in x 9 in (27.3 x 22.8 cm). A very nice example with attractive mottled green-brown patina and sits on a nice custom stand. Ex Frank Sternberg AG, Zurich, Switzerland in the early 1990s.
