PROVENANCE: Gallery label on the reverse of the frame from “Kunsthaus Buhler” in Stuttgart.
NOTES: Alexander Eckener was a painter, printmaker, and engraver. He received his first artistic inspiration from his teacher, the Flensburger painter, Jacob Nobbe. Eckener studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1888-1892. He returned to his hometown and soon after joined the the artists' colony Ekensund.In 1899 Eckener went to Stuttgart where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts becoming the master student of Leopold Graf von Kalckreuth. Here he became well versed in etching and painting. From 1908 Alexander Eckener taught at the Stuttgart Academy and was promoted to Professor of Painting in 1912. In 1925 he became the Professor of lithography and woodcut printing, as well. He left the Academy in 1929 kept painting and teaching privately until his retirement in 1936. Alexander Eckener died in 1944 in Aalen, Germany.
