Description
Pair of large Chargers or Chop Plates. Made of white porcelain, glazed and hand enameled with polychrome decorations. Blooming roses in the center of each, in Magenta and Green. Lozenge-type borders, with repeating rose blooms inside white diamond shapes, against the Cobalt Blue border, accented with Gold star shapes. Note the triple spud marks on the undersides of both plates. Chinese in origin, date back to circa 1820. Known as "Oriental Lowestoft", a term describing Chinese porcelain wares intended for export, in this case from the early 19th century. They have been well tagged with this information - note the typewritten tag on the back of the plate on the right - from a previous collector, gallery or museum. The one on the left front picture bears two surface flakes on the underside rim. The other plate has a sturdy and unobtrusive faint and thin short hairline
