Ca 1892-1902.
Panoramic view capturing the Mohawk Gold Mining Camp, one of the principal mines near Schultz, Pinal County, AZ, during the late 19th-early 20th century. This area was first settled around 1881 after a gentleman by the name of Frank Schultz located gold ore in what would become the Mammoth Mine. The camp that initially settled near the mine took the name Schultz. Following World War I, the town was reestablished as Tiger. Despite all of the mining activity that occurred in the area from the 1850s through 1950s, little remains of Tiger today.
The main mine in the photograph is situated in the barren desert hills that serve as the backdrop, with what looks to be a trough or conveyor used for transporting the ore from the mine to a structure with a tall smokestack visible in the distance. Several small buildings are scattered along the dirt roads near the mining operation.
Condition
Photograph exhibits very good contrast. Some uneven toning to mount, and cornerwear, including loss to top left corner of mount and crease in lower left corner. Overall very fine condition.
Item is in overall good condition, left legs have been repaired. Missing locking mechanism to solidify fall front. Missing brass handles on sides.
