Antique Victorian Silver Plate Mechanical Match Safe

Item Details

Description

This is a wonderful Victorian-era silver mechanical match safe. Although this piece is unmarked I have tested it as silver plated. This match safe features stunning bright cut work that was all done by hand. This piece is in very good condition for its age and still fully functions. This piece is approximately 2” long, 1 1/2” inches wide, and approximately 1/4 of an inch thick.

There is an open circular cartouche on the front of the piece that can be engraved with the help of your local jeweler. This piece weighs approximately 27.20 grams. On the back of the match safe, in a small oval cartouche, the words “Needhan’s Patent” are engraved. Below this is a latch that slides up, revealing a space for the matches. The match safe’s striking pad is in excellent condition for its age and still works. This match safe would be the perfect addition to any antique collection!
