Description
Rare 'crater' Map of the Americas. So called because of the large crater in the middle of South America. Copperplate engraved. Published in Amsterdam. Kircher was a Jesuit scientist who founded the 'museo Kircherianon in the Collegio Ramano' in Rome. Published his great work the 'Mundus Subterraneous' which covered ocean currents, tides, and volcanic activities. The purpose of the Map is to show ocean currents and is the first show the ocean currents of the new world.
