Size: 19.3 x 23.0 in.; Frame: 27.3 x 30.5 in.

This is an excellent celestial chart of the northern sky -- north ecliptic pole to ecliptic. The constellations include Virgo, Leo, Gemini, Ursa Major, Aries, Libra, Pisces, and Sagittarius. The four corners of the chart are decorated with vignettes of the astronomical observatories of Tycho Brahe at Hven, at Paris, of Hevelius at Danzig, and of Eimmart at Nurnberg. At both sides of the celestial chart are tables of the constellations with their magnitudes and the locations of their main stars. Johann Doppelmayr was a professor of mathematics in Nurnberg, and collaborated on most of Homann's celestial maps

Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr (1677-1750) was a German mathematician, astronomer, and cartographer. He become close friends with famed cartographer Johann Batist Homann, and many of his astronomical and celestial plates appeared in Homann's atlases

Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724) was a German geographer and cartographer, well known for his important maps of the Americas. Although his early studies focused on religion, he soon shifted his focus to engraving and cartography and founded his own publishing house in 1702. One of the most reputable cartographers of the 18th century, he was appointed Imperial Geographer by Emperor Charles VI in 1715. After his death, he was succeeded by the Homann heirs company.
